Deeply inspired by a trip to Uganda and Kenya in September 2022, I came home wanting to create something with the sounds and energies collected while I was there. This record was largely written in the month or two following my trip, helping to integrate my experience by melding the vast array of musical styles I usually play and create with a palette of East African sounds.

October Rain is one of the more personal tracks I've ever put out, with a bit of a story behind it. The tracks was built around a sample of a chant sung by the Samburu tribe in Kenya, a nomadic cattle-rearing people whose movements largely follow the rain. After a long and desperate drought, they were singing to give thanks for the rain returning to their area. After I got home we experienced one of the most unusual droughts I'd ever witnessed in mid-October on the west coast. The lyrics were spurred in the middle of that dry-spell, wanting to give my own prayer for rain and more fruitful times.
